And your dog will give you this look upon seeing your magnificent V shaped back.
I know that you want to look good, not only for yourself, but for others. It doesn’t matter whether that individual is a man, woman or dog. So without further ado, let’s get into the process of getting you that V shaped back!
In the video below, I give a great general run through of everything I’m about to talk about.
Workout Your Latissimus Dorsi To Get A V Shaped Back
The Latissimus Dorsi is an extremely important muscle to workout if you want a broad, V shaped back. The Latissimus Dorsi muscle looks like the picture below.
When you workout this muscle properly in the gym doing exercises like seated rows, lat pulldowns, bent over rows and pull-ups, you will begin to develop the V shaped back that you desire. As you can see from the above picture, the Latissimus Dorsi is a very broad back muscle. So when you workout this muscle effectively, you will definitely begin to notice results after a couple months of training!
My personal favorite exercise to workout the latissimus dorsi for a V shaped back is the lat pulldown. Unfortunately, many people in the gym do this exercise wrong. In a video I made below, I explain the proper and improper way to do a lat pulldown exercise.
If you like this video of me, don’t forget to give it a thumbs up on YouTube! It definitely helps!
Workout Your Deltoid Muscle To Get A V Shaped Back
Your Deltoid muscle is found on your shoulders. When this muscle is properly worked out, it will significantly increase the size of your shoulders. By developing bigger shoulder, it will make your back look thicker and wider. That will therefore contribute to you having a V shaped back.
The 3 parts of the Deltoid muscle you are going to want to workout are the front, middle and back portion.
To workout the front part of the deltoid effectively, you are going to want to do the bench press. A slightly closer grip on the bench press will hit your anterior deltoid muscle even more.In order to workout the middle section of the deltoid muscle, you are going to want to do an exercise called lateral raises. This involves you first holding two dumbbells with a thumbs up grip. Then you will raise those two dumbbells away from your body towards the side. When doing this exercise, be sure not to bring the weight above shoulder level. If you do, you will start recruiting your neck muscles. Also, it is very important you perform this exercise with your thumbs up. Doing this exercise with your thumbs down can lead to shoulder impingement and rotator cuff damage.
The last part of the deltoid you are going to want to workout is the back portion. Unfortunately, many of us focus too much on mirror muscles, or muscles we see in the mirror. This can lead to people over developing their front deltoid. This leaves their rear deltoid comparatively small and underdeveloped. If you see people walking around with big, hunched forward shoulders, it is likely they have this muscle imbalance. I personally like to call this look the Gorilla Look.In your quest towards getting a V shaped back, you want to avoid the Gorilla Look. Therefore, working out your posterior deltoid is very important. To do this, do reverse fly exercises. A good video description is below on how to do them.
Doing the above exercise and exercises similar to it will give you well balanced shoulders. Not only do Gorilla shoulders not look attractive, but they can lead to shoulder injuries too!
Lose Weight To Get A V Shaped Back
It is simple. If you have a beer belly and look like Buddha, you won’t have the V shaped back look. You must lose the belly fat to get a V shaped back.
It is simple to understand how to lose weight. Actually taking the steps to lose weight, however, is an entirely different matter! To lose weight, you’ll need to do 3 different things.
Eat Smarter and Healthier
This is an obvious given. But it is far easier said than done! Keep in mind that there is 3500 calories in 1 pound. So if you cut out 500 calories a day from your diet, that is a step in the right direction. You will be losing 1 pound a week if you can do that. A quick piece of advice I can give you is to eliminate candy and soda from your diet. Both of them are empty calories that will do nothing but fatten you up. This will greatly hinder you in attaining a V shaped back. If you drink beer or alcoholic drinks religiously, you should greatly consider cutting back on those too. Eating healthier and smarter is all about willpower and forming better habits!
Do Cardio
Cardiovascular exercises will make your heart healthier, increase your endurance and help you burn off those calories. So besides bringing you closer to that V shaped back, there are numerous benefits to cardiovascular exercise. The recommended amount of cardio from the CDC is 75 minutes of vigorous cardio per week. That or 150 minutes of moderate cardio per week. Vigorous cardiovascular activity is considered something like jogging. Moderate cardiovascular activity is considered something like walking fast. Doing cardiovascular exercise will make it easier for you to burn off 3500 calories per week.
Build Muscle Mass Throughout Your Body
To lose weight, you will need to develop your overall musculature. It is a fact that muscle burns more calories than fat. Therefore if you have more muscle, you will keep weight off more easily. I highly recommend compound exercises to build muscle. These exercises include things like deadlifts, squats and the bench press. These exercises hit multiple muscle groups at once and are highly effective. Building your overall muscle mass will be highly effective in getting you that V shaped back you crave.
In Conclusion
I hope this article better informed you on how to get a V shaped back. You will need to build up your Latissimus Dorsi muscle. You will need to build up your shoulders. Finally, you will also need to lose weight if you are overweight or obese. Doing those three things will give you an awesome V shaped back before you know it!
